The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is engineered for durability and efficiency in marine applications. This innovative mechanical face seal features a unique design that ensures a reliable and dripless operation.
At the core of the PSS Shaft Seal is a sealing surface formed between a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange, attached to the front of the bellow with hose clamps, allows for flexibility and movement, while the back end fits securely over the stern tube. The stainless-steel rotor compresses the bellow and is fastened to the shaft with set-screws, maintaining constant contact between the two surfaces.
This pre-load action compensates for any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust, ensuring optimal performance. The design also accommodates misalignment and vibration issues, with the carbon flange being over-bored to the shaft diameter for added adaptability.
Sealing is enhanced with two O-rings recessed in the collar bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear over time.
