PSS 02-134-334 - Dripless Shaft Seal 1 3/4", 3 3/4" Stern Tube
The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is a highly efficient mechanical face seal designed for marine applications. It features a unique sealing surface formed between the smooth, flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of a flexible bellow using hose clamps, while the rear of the bellow fits over the stern tube and is also secured with clamps. The rotor is mounted directly on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, and it compresses the bellow before being fastened with set screws.
This pre-compression ensures constant contact between the rotor and flange, effectively accommodating any fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust.
The carbon flange is designed with an oversized bore to allow it to "float" around the shaft, providing excellent compensation for misalignment and vibration issues.
Sealing the rotor to the shaft are two O-rings recessed within the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and the rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
