PSS 02-134-312 - Dripless Shaft Seal 1 3/4", 3 1/2" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-134-312 Dripless Shaft Seal offers a reliable solution for marine applications, ensuring a secure and leak-free connection between the shaft and stern tube. Designed for efficiency and durability, this innovative seal features a mechanical face design that enhances performance in challenging environments.
The PSS - PYI Type A Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal mechanism, with a sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellow's front side using hose clamps, while the bellow itself fits snugly over the stern tube, also fastened with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange and is designed to compress the bellow before being secured with set-screws. This pre-load ensures continuous contact between the rotor and carbon flange, effectively accommodating any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust.
The carbon flange is intentionally over-bored to allow it to "float" around the shaft, which helps mitigate misalignment and vibration issues. Furthermore, the stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear over time.
