The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is a mechanical seal designed for stern tubes, featuring a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. This design allows for a dripless seal by maintaining constant contact through pre-compression, accommodating movement from propeller thrust. The oversized carbon flange helps mitigate misalignment and vibrations, while recessed O-rings ensure durability without wear. Suitable for temperatures from 5°F to 225°F and pressures up to 15 PSI, it supports shaft speeds of up to 10,000 RPM.

PSS 02-134-234 - Dripless Shaft Seal 1 3/4", 2 3/4" Stern Tube
The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is designed to provide a reliable, dripless sealing solution for stern tubes. Utilizing a mechanical face seal, it ensures a tight seal through the interaction between the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange.
The stationary carbon flange, secured to the bellow with hose clamps, fits over the stern tube. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellow before being fastened with set-screws. This pre-compression maintains constant contact between the two surfaces, accommodating any axial movement caused by propeller thrust.
To enhance flexibility, the carbon flange is oversized, allowing it to adjust around the shaft and mitigate misalignment and vibrations. The rotor is sealed to the shaft using two recessed O-rings that rotate with the rotor, ensuring durability without wear over time.
