The PSS 02-130M-714 is a highly efficient dripless shaft seal designed for marine applications, ensuring durability and reliability. This innovative seal utilizes a mechanical face design to prevent leaks while accommodating the dynamic movements of the stern tube.

The Type B PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal, wherein the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange, secured with hose clamps, is attached to the front of the bellow, while the back end fits over the stern tube. This design allows for a secure yet flexible connection.

The stainless-steel rotor compresses the bellow, maintaining constant contact between the rotor and flange to accommodate variable movements caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is over-bored to the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" and effectively address misalignment and vibration issues. Additionally, the rotor is sealed to the shaft with two recessed O-rings that rotate with the assembly, minimizing wear during operation.

Temperature limits range from -13°F to 425°F (-25°C to 220°C), with a pressure limit of 50 PSI (3.5 BAR) and a maximum shaft RPM of 7,000. The carbon graphite is lapped to a tolerance of 0.000044 inches, while the stainless-steel components are faced to a roughness of 9-12 Ra. The bellow material is a mandrel-formed silicone/fabric composite.
