PSS 02-125M-858 - Dripless Shaft Seal 125 mm, 8 5/8" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-125M-858 is engineered for optimal performance in marine applications, providing a reliable solution for sealing stern tubes. This advanced dripless shaft seal utilizes a mechanical face seal design, ensuring durability and efficiency in various operating conditions.
Type B PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal, where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellow's front side with hose clamps, while the back end fits over the stern tube, also secured by hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft, positioned in front of the carbon flange. It compresses the bellow before being fastened to the shaft with set-screws, creating a pre-load that maintains constant contact between the rotor and the flange. This design allows the PSS to adapt to the fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. The over-bored carbon flange allows for a "floating" action around the shaft, effectively compensating for misalignment and vibration issues. Additionally, the rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings recessed into the collar, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear during operation.
