PSS 02-125M-800 - Dripless Shaft Seal 125 mm, 8" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-125M-800 is a high-performance dripless shaft seal designed for marine applications. It utilizes advanced sealing technology to ensure reliability and efficiency in various operating conditions.
The Type B PSS Shaft Seal functions as a mechanical face seal, with a sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellow using hose clamps, while the back of the bellow fits over the stern tube, also held in place by hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellow before being secured with set-screws. This pre-load maintains continuous contact between the rotor and carbon flange, allowing for compensation of fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust.
The carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft due to its over-bored diameter, effectively addressing misalignment and vibration issues. Sealing is enhanced by two O-rings recessed into the collar bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, reducing wear during operation.
