PSS 02-125M-734 - Dripless Shaft Seal 125 mm, 7 3/4" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-125M-734 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to provide a reliable, leak-free connection for marine applications. This innovative mechanical face seal employs a unique design that ensures optimal performance under various operating conditions.
The Type B PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellow using hose clamps, while the rear of the bellow fits over the stern tube and is also secured with clamps. Positioned in front of the carbon flange, the stainless-steel rotor compresses the bellow, maintaining constant contact between the rotor and flange. This pre-load allows the PSS Shaft Seal to accommodate the variable movements caused by propeller thrust.
Additionally, the carbon flange is intentionally over-bored to the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" around the shaft and effectively compensate for misalignment and vibration. The rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear throughout operation.
