PSS 02-125M-714 - Dripless Shaft Seal 125 mm, 7 1/4" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-125M-714 Dripless Shaft Seal offers a reliable solution for marine applications, ensuring optimal performance and minimal maintenance. This innovative seal is designed for stern tube installations, effectively preventing water ingress while accommodating shaft movement.
The Type B PSS Shaft Seal operates as a mechanical face seal. It features a sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellow's front side with hose clamps, while the back end fits over the stern tube and is also secured with clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is positioned on the shaft in front of the carbon flange. To ensure proper function, the rotor compresses the bellow before being affixed to the shaft with set-screws. This pre-load maintains constant contact between the stainless-steel rotor and the carbon flange, allowing the PSS to adjust for any forward or backward movement caused by propeller thrust.
The carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft due to its over-bored configuration, compensating for potential misalignment and vibration. Sealing is achieved through two O-rings, which are recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring durability and preventing wear throughout operation.
