The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is designed to provide a reliable and efficient sealing solution for marine applications. This mechanical face seal features a unique design where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front side of the bellow using hose clamps, while the back end fits over the stern tube, ensuring a tight seal.

The stainless-steel rotor, mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compresses the bellow, maintaining constant contact between the rotor and flange. This pre-load mechanism allows the seal to adapt to any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust, ensuring consistent performance.

Moreover, the carbon flange's over-bored design ensures it can 'float' around the shaft, compensating for misalignment and vibration. The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings recessed into the collar bore, allowing for smooth rotation without wear.
