The PSS Shaft Seal is an advanced mechanical face seal designed for marine applications. Its innovative construction features a rotating stainless steel rotor that interacts with a stationary carbon flange, creating a reliable seal. The carbon flange is secured to the vessel's stern tube with hose clamps and connects to the bellows on its front side, also using hose clamps. The stainless steel rotor fits onto the shaft, compressing the bellows before the collar is fastened with set-screws. This pre-load ensures continuous contact between the rotor and flange, enabling the seal to effectively manage thrust from the propeller. The carbon flange is intentionally bored larger than the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float" and effectively accommodate misalignment and vibration. For durability, the stainless steel collar features two recessed o-rings that seal against the shaft. These o-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation. This design makes the PSS Shaft Seal a robust solution for maintaining a dripless seal in marine environments.
