The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is an advanced mechanical face seal designed to provide effective sealing in marine applications. Utilizing a unique design, the seal features a flat contact surface formed between a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellow with hose clamps, while the bellow itself fits over the stern tube and is also secured by hose clamps. The rotor, mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compresses the bellow, ensuring a tight seal.

This pre-compression maintains constant contact between the stainless-steel rotor and carbon flange, effectively compensating for any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, accommodating misalignments and vibrations with ease.

Sealing integrity is enhanced by two O-rings recessed in the collar bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear during operation.
