PSS 02-115M-614 - Dripless Shaft Seal 115 mm, 6 1/4" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-115M-614 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for optimal performance and reliability in marine environments. This innovative seal combines advanced materials and engineering to ensure a leak-free operation in stern tube applications.
The Type B PSS Shaft Seal operates as a mechanical face seal, where the sealing surface is formed between the smooth, flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellow using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellow fits snugly over the stern tube, also held in place with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange and is instrumental in compressing the bellow before being secured to the shaft with set-screws. This pre-compression ensures consistent contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, enabling the seal to adapt to shifting movements caused by propeller thrust.
Moreover, the carbon flange is designed to be slightly over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float" and effectively compensate for misalignment and vibration issues. To enhance durability, the stainless-steel rotor features two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore, providing a secure seal around the shaft. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear during operation.
