The PSS 02-115M-600 is an advanced dripless shaft seal designed for reliable performance in marine applications. Its innovative engineering ensures minimal maintenance and maximum durability, making it ideal for stern tube installations.
The Type B PSS Shaft Seal operates using a mechanical face seal. The sealing mechanism consists of a stainless-steel rotor that rotates against a stationary carbon flange. This configuration creates a tight seal, with the carbon flange secured to the bellow via hose clamps. The bellow itself is fitted over the stern tube and also secured with clamps. The rotor compresses the bellow before being fixed to the shaft with set-screws, ensuring consistent contact between the rotor and flange. This design allows the seal to adapt to variations caused by propeller thrust, effectively managing fore and aft movements.
The carbon flange is engineered to accommodate shaft misalignment and vibration due to its over-bored design, which enables it to "float" around the shaft. Sealing is enhanced by two O-rings that are recessed within the collar, ensuring they rotate with the shaft and rotor without experiencing wear.
