The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal offers a reliable solution for maintaining a leak-free operation in marine environments. This mechanical face seal features a unique design that ensures optimal performance even under varying conditions.

The sealing mechanism is established between the smooth surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellow using hose clamps, while the back of the bellow fits snugly over the stern tube, also held in place by hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft ahead of the carbon flange, compressing the bellow before being fastened to the shaft with set-screws.

This pre-load compression ensures continuous contact between the rotor and flange, allowing the PSS Seal to adapt to any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is designed with an over-bore to match the shaft diameter, allowing it to “float” and effectively manage misalignment and vibration issues.

Sealing is enhanced by two O-rings recessed into the collar bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear throughout operation.
