PSS 02-112-314 - Dripless Shaft Seal 1 1/2", 3 1/4" Stern Tube
The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is designed for reliable performance in marine applications. This mechanical face seal creates a secure sealing interface between the stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is mounted to the front of the bellow using hose clamps, while the bellow's rear attaches to the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is positioned on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellow before being fastened with set-screws.
This pre-load compression ensures constant contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, effectively compensating for variations in movement caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, addressing alignment and vibration issues efficiently.
Sealing is achieved through two O-rings located in the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, preventing wear during operation.
