PSS 02-112-312 - Dripless Shaft Seal 1 1/2", 3 1/2" Stern Tube

The PSS Shaft Seal is designed to provide a reliable mechanical seal between the rotating stainless steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange, secured to the vessel's stern tube with hose clamps, connects to the front side of the bellows in a similar manner. The stainless steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows as the collar is fastened to the shaft with set-screws. This pre-load ensures consistent contact between the sealing faces, allowing the PSS to adapt to thrust from the propeller. The carbon flange is intentionally bored larger than the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" and effectively manage misalignment and vibration. Additionally, the stainless steel collar is tightly sealed to the shaft with two recessed o-rings that rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear during operation.
