The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is an advanced mechanical face seal designed for reliable performance in marine applications. It features a unique sealing mechanism that ensures a secure fit between the stainless-steel rotor and the carbon flange, providing effective sealing even under variable conditions.

The sealing surface is established between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is affixed to the bellow's front side with hose clamps, while the bellow's back end fits over the stern tube, also secured by hose clamps. The rotor compresses the bellow, maintaining constant contact between the rotor and flange, which accommodates the fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust.

Engineered to counteract misalignment and vibration, the carbon flange is over-bored to allow it to "float" around the shaft. This design enhances its adaptability. The rotor is sealed to the shaft using two recessed O-rings that rotate with the shaft, minimizing wear during operation.
