The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is engineered for superior performance in marine applications. It features a mechanical face seal that ensures effective sealing through the interaction of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellow with hose clamps, while the bellow itself fits snugly over the stern tube, also secured with clamps. The rotor compresses the bellow, ensuring a tight fit to the shaft using set-screws.

This design allows for consistent contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, accommodating any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange’s over-bored design permits it to 'float' around the shaft, effectively mitigating alignment and vibration issues.

The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft with two recessed O-rings that rotate with the shaft, minimizing wear during operation.
