The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is a mechanical face seal designed for stern tubes, featuring a stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange that create a reliable sealing surface. The flange attaches to the bellows, which fits over the stern tube, while the rotor compresses the bellows to maintain contact and accommodate propeller thrust. With an oversized bore to allow for misalignment and vibration compensation, the seal includes O-rings that rotate with the shaft, minimizing wear. It operates within a temperature range of 5°F to 225°F and supports up to 10,000 RPM.

The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is engineered to provide a reliable and efficient sealing solution for stern tubes. This mechanical face seal features a precision sealing surface formed between the flat stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows using hose clamps, while the bellows itself fits snugly over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange and compresses the bellows, ensuring a tight seal through set-screws.

This pre-loading mechanism maintains consistent contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, effectively accommodating any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is designed with an oversized bore to allow for movement around the shaft, which helps mitigate misalignment and vibration issues.

Sealing is further enhanced by two O-rings recessed in the collar bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear during operation.
