PSS 02-110M-700 - Dripless Shaft Seal 110 mm, 7" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-110M-700 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for high performance and reliability in marine applications. Designed as a mechanical face seal, it features a sophisticated sealing mechanism that ensures optimal performance and longevity.
The Type B PSS Shaft Seal operates through a sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The stationary carbon flange is securely fastened to the front side of the bellow using hose clamps, while the back end is fitted over the stern tube and also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellow before being secured to the shaft with set-screws. This pre-load maintains constant contact between the stainless-steel rotor and carbon flange, effectively compensating for any variable movement caused by propeller thrust.
The carbon flange is intentionally over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to “float” around the shaft. This design feature helps mitigate misalignment and vibration issues. Additionally, the stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft by two O-rings, which are recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
