The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal provides a reliable solution for preventing water ingress in marine applications. This mechanical face seal features a unique design that ensures a secure fit and effective sealing through a combination of stainless-steel and carbon components.

The sealing mechanism relies on the interaction between a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is mounted to the front of a flexible bellow with hose clamps, which securely fits over the stern tube. The rotor, attached to the shaft, compresses the bellow, maintaining constant contact between the rotor and flange. This pre-load allows the seal to adapt to any movement caused by propeller thrust.

Designed to accommodate misalignment and vibration, the carbon flange is over-bored to float around the shaft. This ensures optimal performance under varying conditions. The rotor's connection to the shaft is reinforced by two O-rings, which rotate with the assembly and are protected from wear.
