PSS 02-078-212 - Dripless Shaft Seal 7/8", 2 1/2" Stern Tube
The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is designed for exceptional performance in marine applications. This mechanical face seal utilizes a unique sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellow's front side with hose clamps, while the back end fits over the stern tube, also secured with clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange and compresses the bellow, ensuring a tight seal.
This pre-load compression maintains consistent contact between the rotor and flange, allowing the seal to adapt to any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, compensating for misalignment and vibration, enhancing durability. The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings, which rotate with the shaft, minimizing wear during operation.
