PSS 02-078-200 - Dripless Shaft Seal 7/8", 2" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-078-200 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for reliable performance in marine applications. This mechanical face seal features a unique design that ensures a tight seal even under varying conditions.
The PSS Shaft Seal employs a mechanical face seal mechanism, where the sealing surface is established between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange, securely attached to the front of the bellow with hose clamps, allows for flexible installation over the stern tube, also secured by clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is connected to the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellow to maintain constant contact between the rotor and flange.
This pre-load compression ensures that the two flat faces maintain contact, accommodating any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is engineered to fit around the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float" and effectively handle misalignment and vibration issues.
Sealing is enhanced with two O-rings that are recessed into the bore of the collar, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, eliminating wear during operation.
