The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is a high-performance mechanical face seal designed to provide a reliable, dripless seal for propeller shafts. By utilizing a precisely engineered interaction between a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange, the seal effectively prevents water ingress while compensating for vibrations and minor misalignments.
- The carbon flange is secured to the front side of the bellow using hose clamps, while the rear end is attached to the stern tube with additional hose clamps.
- The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft, compressing the bellow and ensuring constant pressure between the rotor and the carbon flange.
- This compression maintains a tight seal, allowing the system to adjust for movement caused by propeller thrust.
- The carbon flange is over-bored to allow it to “float” around the shaft, reducing the impact of misalignment and vibration.
- The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings, which rotate without experiencing wear during operation.
