The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is designed to provide a reliable and efficient sealing solution for stern tubes. This mechanical face seal utilizes a unique system where a stainless-steel rotor rotates against a stationary carbon flange, creating a secure sealing surface. The stationary flange is attached to the bellow's front side with hose clamps, while the back of the bellow fits snugly over the stern tube, also secured with clamps. The rotor is positioned in front of the carbon flange on the shaft, compressing the bellow before being firmly attached with set-screws.

This pre-load compression ensures continual contact between the rotor and flange faces, enabling the seal to adapt to the variable movements generated by propeller thrust.

The carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, accommodating most misalignment and vibration issues. Sealing is further enhanced by two O-rings, which are recessed in the collar bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, preventing wear during operation.
