The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is designed for reliable performance in marine applications. This mechanical face seal features a unique design where the sealing surface is formed between a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is fastened to the front of a bellow using hose clamps, while the bellow itself fits securely over the stern tube, also held in place with hose clamps.

The stainless-steel rotor, which is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compresses the bellow. This compression maintains consistent contact between the rotor and the flange, allowing the seal to adapt to any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust.

To enhance flexibility, the carbon flange is over-bored to the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" and effectively compensate for misalignment and vibrations. Sealing is ensured by two O-rings recessed into the collar bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear during operation.
