PSS 02-034-200 - Dripless Shaft Seal 3/4", 2" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-034-200 Dripless Shaft Seal is an advanced mechanical face seal designed for marine applications. It features a unique sealing mechanism that relies on the interaction between a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange.
The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellow with hose clamps, while the back of the bellow fits over the stern tube, also held in place by hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor compresses the bellow before being secured to the shaft with set-screws, creating a pre-load that ensures constant contact between the rotor and the carbon flange. This design allows the seal to accommodate the variable movements caused by propeller thrust.
The carbon flange's over-bored design allows it to float around the shaft, effectively compensating for misalignment and vibrations. Additionally, two O-rings recessed in the collar bore seal the rotor to the shaft, rotating with it and minimizing wear over time.
