The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal is a highly efficient mechanical face seal designed for sealing marine shafts. It works by creating a secure, reliable seal between the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. This product ensures durability and performance, even in challenging environments.
- The stationary carbon flange is attached to the front of the bellow with hose clamps, while the back of the bellow fits over the stern tube and is also secured with hose clamps.
- The stainless-steel rotor fits on the shaft in front of the carbon flange and compresses the bellow. It is then secured with set screws.
- Compression maintains constant contact between the stainless-steel rotor and carbon flange, compensating for variable movement due to propeller thrust.
- The carbon flange is over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to float and handle misalignment and vibration issues.
- The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings that rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear.
