PSS 02-034-114 - Dripless Shaft Seal 3/4", 1 1/4" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-034-114 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for optimal performance in marine applications, ensuring a reliable seal that maintains integrity under varying conditions.
The PSS - PYI Type A PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal design. The sealing mechanism is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows' front with hose clamps, while the rear fits over the stern tube, also fastened with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, and it compresses the bellow before being secured to the shaft with set-screws.
This pre-loading ensures constant contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, accommodating for any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange's design allows it to "float" around the shaft, effectively addressing misalignment and vibration issues.
Sealing between the stainless-steel rotor and the shaft is achieved using two O-rings, which are recessed within the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear during operation.
