PSS 02-034-112 - Dripless Shaft Seal 3/4", 1 1/2" Stern Tube
The PSS - PYI Type A Shaft Seal is a mechanical face seal designed for marine applications. It creates a seal between the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange attaches to the bellow using hose clamps, while the back of the bellow fits over the stern tube and is secured with additional clamps. The rotor is mounted on the shaft, compressing the bellow before being secured with set-screws.
This compression ensures constant contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, allowing the seal to adjust for fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is over-bored to fit the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" around the shaft and reduce misalignment and vibration issues.
The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings recessed into the collar, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, preventing wear during operation.
