These gas struts function as pneumatic muscle bundles, most often used for opening and holding doors or hatches. The extension force results from compressed nitrogen gas pressure inside the tube, which creates a pressure difference with the atmosphere. Gas passes through a self-cleaning valve in the piston rod to push it outward. A small amount of oil inside the tube ensures lubrication and damping during operation.

Mounting instructions: For best damping, mount the gas spring at a 30° angle to the vertical plane with the piston rod directed toward the pivot point. In cases of large opening angles, mounting the piston rod in the direction of the pivot point being opened results in better damping after passing the horizontal plane.
